The best of Argostoli in one day

The best of Argostoli in one day.

Kefalonia is a rather big island, boasting of magnificent landscapes and must see attractions scattered all around. If you want to miss the less possible, let’s explore Kefalonia separated in regions, starting our expedition from Argostoli city.

It’s a beautiful, sunny morning! Start from the central square of Argostoli and walk to Lithostroto pedestrian mall street. Here you will find traditional products, souvenirs and plenty of coffee shops. You can visit the orthodox churchof St Spiridonas, the church of St Nicholas which is the unique catholic church in Kefalonia and at the end of the pedestrian street you must definitely enter the Clock Tower in Kambana Square (the Bell Tower), which offers magnificent panoramic views of the city.
Continue your tour with a visit to the Archaeological Museum, located just opposite of Kefalos municipal theater and to the Historical and Folklore Museum. Return to the central square and walk towards the other side, along the road with the palm trees. You will meet the Kosmetatos Residence, a beautiful manor that survived the disastrous 1953 earthquake.

It’s midday and the temperature has risen! At a short distance by car or bus, refresh yourselves in the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea in Lassi area, boasting of sandy beaches for all tastes. Choose Makris Gialos if you are into watersports and lively beach bars, Platis Gialos if you search a family friendly organised beach or any non-organised beach along the coastline, they are all clean and sandy.

From Lassi, take your way back to Argostoli from the coastal road. During your drive, enjoy the beautiful view to the sea and don’t omit to pay a visit to St Theodori Lighthouse, the Aqui Division Memorial and Katavothres area with the Sea mill, featuring a rare geological phenomenon.

Continue your evening with a stroll around the Kefalonia Botanica Garden or the Napier Park and watch the sunset from the De Bosset Bridge, the largest stone bridge above the sea level.
